We finally have a new website!Yep, it's true. This site has been relegated to blog status. The official website for the shop is here: http://blackstonebicycles.com/

That being the case this page will be used for product reviews and the like. They'll be unfiltered and hopefully not too boring!

Blackstone Bicycleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06977465504445181724noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3086244076433935201.post-19028339856598799752017-04-06T08:53:00.000-07:002017-04-06T08:53:13.414-07:00It's about time...It is. It's time for the weather to finally change for the better. It's also far past time this shop had a new website! To that end you should see one shortly. Expect all the massive media infiltration and saturation that the LBS that took 7 years to make stickers is known for! (That there is some professional grade sarcasm just in case you are sarcasm deficient).

You can expect the new site to pop up over the next week or so. This blog will still exist and allow us to focus on product reviews whilst waxing poetic about our shared pastime. The product reviews will be zero bullshit and honest. We're small enough and stable enough to not sell or support crap. It's always been that way. Having the blog separate from our "official" site makes the decision to publish our thoughts in an unfettered manner that much easier.

On that note... Here are a few quick thoughts on a bike that made me stoked to get out again. It's been a long winter, and like many my enthusiasm for riding bikes like it's my job waxes and wanes. Toss in some physical issues that greatly impeded activity and recovery, and the bike started to seem like a cruel torture device.

Much like my last crash and burn cycles a Surly dug me out of the hole and put smile on my face. 10 + years ago it was a SS Karate Monkey that brought me back from near total bicycle burnout. A few years ago it was the original Krampus. Last night it was my Cross Check. The bike is, frankly, nothing special. It is a heavy, useful and decidedly old school cross bike that can be downright frightening to ride in the woods. Bikes like the Cross Check always reminds me how easy it is to get caught up in the bullshit this self destructive industry foists on all of us on a nearly daily basis. Newer isn't always better, neither is lighter and bigger. What is better is going outside and riding with your friends. Sometimes doing stupid shit on the wrong bike and remembering why you do this thing, sometime obsessively, and sometimes with your head screwed on straight.

In short, we could all do well to remember that the experience determines the ride. Not the bike your perched on at the moment. Now, let's all get out and enjoy the weather on tap for next week!
As we transition to the much anticipated fall riding season there are a few things you may want to know about.

First, I'm taking an actual week off! The dates will be from 9/6 through 9/13. I'll be back to work resurrecting all the Huffys in the northern suburbs on the 14th. Maybe I'll ride somewhere besides Lincoln Woods, who knows.

Secondly - you need to attend this year's Urban Assault Race! Even if you don't race you should be there, if to simply witness the lunacy first hand. Event details are below.

Third, the day before the Urban Assault Race there is something else you should really go check out.

The Dude Smash is a really cool race just down the road in West Warwick, RI. It is right off of the Washington Secondary Bike Path, there is plenty of parking and/or you can ride your bike there via the path. I suggest you go, bring some beer, heckle some racers and have a good time. Or, register and race and then apply steps 2, 3 and 4 listed above!

Stay tuned for some bike sale info and weekly ride updates after I'm back from vacation. Until then enjoy the weather and get out and ride!
Rest assured that the shop is still here. In case you didn't figure it out already, or hadn't heard via the RI cycling knitting circle, the shop is now a one man show (or flying circus, depending on the timing of your visit).

Mike has been spinning wrenches, and keeping Barak company, over at Providence Bicycle since last October. I've been holding down the fort and keeping the lights on over here. He is still doing a killer job helping out with the Wednesday night ride and the group has grown a lot over the last two seasons.

Things this late spring have been busy. Super busy, really, given the glacial conditions we all lived through followed by a swift transition into some gorgeous weather. As a result I've been remiss in getting around to updating anything but Facebook.

Now that it is (almost) Summer it's time to post a few things you may find interesting, including some sales and some ride info...

Local Rides/Racing:

The weekly Lincoln Woods ride is still on Wednesday nights, at 6:00! We meet at the covered bridge and roll out by 6:10 at the latest. The group has grown to roughly 20 or so riders each week with 2-3 groups for varying skill levels. If you haven't ridden Lincoln Woods in a while you should come check it out. The post ride beers and conversation are probably as good as the riding!

The Gnar Weasels are now coming to Diamond Hill! Yeah, you likely knew that already but it's worth mentioning that the race has been moved to the very local DH trails. This is guaranteed to be a tough old school mtb race. Bring your climbing legs, and a your tech skills, to town on July 5th! Bike reg link is here.

Speaking of Diamond Hill, did you know there is a Summer MTB bike camp? Well, there is, and it's sure to be a good time. Info can be found here, and here. Check it out!

As you can see, the Fun Ride is serious business again this year. We at RI NEMBA, and the shop, seriously hope you bring food for the RI Food Bank. We also hope you have a seriously awesome wicked good time. Don't be a fool, bring some food!

Directions:

Take route 146 to the Breakneck Hill Road exit (AKA rte 123). Head East (that's away from where the sun sets, towards where it rises)! After you pass the Jehovah's Witness Church the entrance is on your right. Go through the covered bridge and hang a right, you'll figure it out from there.

Registration is from 9-12. Chili, hot dogs and beverages to follow. Bring a helmet, a bike and an appetite!

Rumor has it that the fine folks from NBX bikes will be there with a bunch of demo bikes. Foolproof brewing will be supplying the beverages and Stacy will once again be cooking up a ton of chili. Hot dogs will be cooked, bikes will be ridden, mistakes will be made and everyone will have fun. Seriously.

Other Stuff:

Ah yes, the other stuff... There are still a few bikes that need to get out into the wild this season. Peruse the list below and give the shop a call if anything strikes your fancy! All of the bikes below are guaranteed to make you super cool. Way cooler than that time the Fonz jumped that unicorn over Snake River Canyon. I'm serious, they are that cool.

In case you haven't heard already we are hosting our annual party time bike-o-rama hangout on 12/28 this year! Swing by the shop from 12-6 for free beer courtesy of the fine folks at Foolproof Brewing as well as some tasty treats. Also included, free of charge, is some fascinating conversation about bicycle related doohickeys and the like.

Tell your friends! It'll be fun, or it won't. If it's not fun, well, that's on you and not us, as we aim to please. The flyer for the party can be found below. Feel free to share with your homeboys and homegirls alike.

If you're on Facebook and would like to stay abreast of this sort of news feel free to like us here.

** Please note that if you swing by between 12/25 and 12/27 that we will not be here!! We're taking a break. Then we're coming in and hosting a party. It's the hard knock life around here for sure.

Also - please note that the sale on Endura clothing is ongoing through the end of the
winter. 25% off anything from Endura!

Jackets are actually on some sort of super
duper Crazy Eddie style blowout - buy one at 25% off and get another
for 50% off! Pick up a Gridlock and a Pakajak for under $120. Crazy! In case you don't know Crazy Eddie, here's a crash course in awesome...

Oh, and all the in stock tires and tubes are still 20% off, and 2013 leftover bikes and demos are still on sale. 2014 stock is 10% off as well.

So, now that the important commerce and party related stuff is out of the way.... Here's that Surly Krampus review you probably came here for in the first place.

By now you all know what they look like, so I'm going to skip the gratuitous bike porn photo shoot B.S. and get to it. I could babble on for a while here so I'm going to just boil it down to 11 bullet points detailing what it is, and what it isn't.

1. It loves gently rolling terrain and rewards those who can hold momentum.

2. It abhors steep climbing.

3. The Krampus is a bounce house on wheels with the wrong tire pressure.

4. Don't take this thing to a race if you want to win unless you are on EPO.

5. Do take it to a race if you need attention and/or you are on EPO.

6. It kinda needs those 120 tpi tires. A 30t chainring doesn't hurt either.

7. It is NOT an all day 4 hours in the saddle kind of bike, unless you enjoy torture.

8. It is a super cool bike that rides way better in snow than we thought it would. Like, WAY better.

9. It rides better on dirt than a "normal" Fat Bike, or maybe just different.

10. It is a really fun bike to just ride, explore trail on and wander around with and forget about Strava and crap like that.

11. It is sparkly green and really pretty.

It looks like this:

That is all, happy holidays!Brendanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15400774544624205539noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3086244076433935201.post-82864617729375435112013-10-29T10:38:00.000-07:002013-10-29T10:42:49.725-07:00News! Or, lots and lots of content to make up for slacking for so long!In our zeal to continually blast the Facebook world with relevant content this blog has become neglected. I do, however, think we found a way to revive this media channel going forward. How? By adding product reviews, and simply posting more of the happenings in our local cycling community. This post will focus on the news and sale side of things with parts reviews to come..

Alright, with that covered here's all the news that's fit to invade your eyeballs!

First on the agenda is the annual RI NEMBA Lincoln Woods Fun Ride! I think this is the 5th, or 6th, year we've been doing this ride? I'm a little fuzzy on that one, but who cares? It's a great ride for a good cause, the trails are leaf blown and there's hot dogs, burgers and chili! This year's price of admission is either non perishable food items for the RI Community Food Bank or a toy for the Children's Friend Holiday Drive. Cash in lieu of the above works as well. Oh, yeah, we're hosting a bike swap as well. Bring your parts and haggle amongst friends! Please print the flyer below and distribute as you see fit!

*Please note the new start/registration area! Take the rte. 123 exit from rte. 146 and head EAST. The park entrance is roughly 2.5 miles down on the right. Drive through the covered bridge and take a right at the kiosk.

Please, DON'T be that guy who only brings a pack of gum. Seriously, suck it up and give like you mean it. Chances are if you're attending this ride, on a mountain bike, you can spare a little for others. It ain't gonna kill you, and you can restock your Zombie Apocalypse prepper cave later.

In related news we are going to leave the arrows up for a few weeks after the ride. This means you can go out and ride after the Fun Ride, without getting lost and eaten by werewolves! Yaay!

I'm guessing there will be some arrow removal courtesy of jerks, but the thing to focus on here is that the park manager wants to blaze a loop in the spring. This is a pretty big deal and it will be great for everyone venturing into the park. The idea is to mark a hiking/mountain biking loop that will allow folks to venture out without feeling like they will get lost. It should also help curtail some of the local "wildlife" activities in the park to boot.

What's next? Well, we're hosting some repair classes over the next few weeks.

The schedule and topics are below:

10/30 - Flat tires! Patching, replacing tubes and how to trouble shoot and identify the cause.

11/6 - Chain repair! Breaking chains, resizing and loosening stuck links.

11/13 - Fiddling with shifty bits! Or, how to adjust your derailleurs.

If demand is there we will keep going with the schedule above restarting on 11/20.

Please RSVP for the classes as we try to limit them to 5 at most. You can RSVP by calling the shop (401 335 3163), or shoot us an email at blackstonebicycles@gmail.com.
This week the ride is taking place in Big River at 9:00 AM. The meeting location is at the corner of Division St. and New London Turnpike.

To get there take Exit 7 from Route 95. Head east off the exit (that's left if coming from the north, and a right if coming from the south) and go to the end of the road and cross over to the dirt parking lot in front of the fire gate. Don't block the fire gate. This is easy button stuff kids, you can get there from here!

All you need to bring is yourself, a helmet and a working bicycle! Oh, and a positive attitude won't hurt either. So, go get your practice in and become a seasoned trail rider faster and avoid being this guy...
Just realized that we haven't updated this here blog in quite some time! Hopefully you're getting out there a bit or at least thinking about hitting the trails and roads of RI. We've got some news to share and some deals to announce so keep reading!

Winter gear sale: 25% off all in stock Endura winter clothing until we send it all back. You'll have until the first week of April to take advantage of this really sweet deal.

2013 Demo Bikes and demo pricing:

All the demos below are $50 for a day with the exception of the KHS 650 606 ($25). Basically, you can take it anywhere you want (except Highland Mountain - seriously, we know what that dirt looks like and you'll never remove it all) and have it back that night or the next day.

You go down with enthusiasm and break something you get to replace it at our cost. Seems fair enough, right? Also, the cost of the demo comes off of the bike price. That is, assuming you like it enough to buy one.

OK, with that out of the way the list, as of now, is below.

Rocky Mountain Vertex 970 RSL size large.

Banshee Prime size large.

Banshee Rune size large (should be in the shop by the end of March).

KHS 650 606 size large.

IBIS Mojo HD size large.

Down the road we're going to bring in a Transition Bandit 29, and maybe a not yet able to be disclosed bike from another brand...

On the new bright and shiny front we've already seen two Rocky Mountain Element 970 RSL BC Editions come through the shop as well as a Rocky Mountain Altitude 730 650b bike! There have also been a handful of new Transitions that will be out there lurking about the local woods soon enough. Oh, and some guy is buying an Ibis Ripley. Our jobs don't suck apparently...

Brendanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15400774544624205539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3086244076433935201.post-86059960523981321742013-01-11T10:06:00.001-08:002013-01-14T08:54:25.915-08:00News! Winter Vacation dates, demo bikes and other junk.Hi there. Hopefully you've survived the Mayan Apocalypse, the New Year and gotten out and enjoyed the snowfall in one way or another! Also, you have hopefully avoided riding a trainer! That in and of itself may be a fate worse than any centuries old prophecy of doom, and as such is to be avoided at all costs! Go skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing or just drink beer and catch up on episodes of The Walking Dead. Whatever, anything is better than pedaling and going nowhere. Don't be a trainer Zombie!

On the topic of survival we've made it through another season and we will be taking some vacation time during the month of February. We'll be closed beginning on February 3rd, and we'll be back on February 18th. 15 days is a long time to be shut down but it is winter in New England, and if not now then likely never.

On the new bike front we're already pretty well loaded up with hardtail 29ers (Flare to the Vertex 930) and commuters (Metropolis LHR) from Rocky Mountain. We've also managed to get some saddle time in on our demo 650b hardtail from KHS and we should also see a few of the Rocky Mountain 650b Altitudes in here before March. One of the Altitude 750s will be available as a demo as well.

The KHS hardtail will be available to demo for $20 and will be a great way to check out the wheel size in a general sense. The Rocky will be available for the normal demo rate of $50. Same deal for the Banshee Prime, the Banshee Rune, the Transition Trans AM, the Surly Karate Monkey, the Rocky Mountain Vertex 970RSL and the Ibis Mojo HD. Do you think we have a enough demos?!

Oh, and we're also now a Pivot dealer! This is pretty awesome news for us and we're really excited to see John's new LES frame when it arrives next week. He'll be out there ripping people's legs off on a regular basis and we couldn't be more stoked that he's going to be doing it on a Pivot.

So, that segues nicely into this, the next paragraph! New bikes we're looking to get into the shop over the course of the next season cash flow permitting....

The short list is as follows:

Pivot Mach 429
Banshee Spitfire (March)
Banshee Rune (March)
Surly Krampus
Rocky Mountain Instinct
Transition Covert 29

In case you were wondering, we do still have a few demos up for sale from last season.

Model and pricing below:

Transition Trans AM 29, Large. We dropped the chainguide and went with an MRP 1X Guide to shed some weight, and we upgraded the wheelset to a set of Stan's Flows! Otherwise the build is the same as it has always been. $1900 takes it home!

We also still have the large Rocky Mountain Vertex 970 RSL on sale for $2,400.

So, that about wraps it up! If you're feeling like it please swing by our Facebook page and throw us a "like". We're trying to hit the 500 mark this season for some reason or another. Your efforts in this regard are appreciated!

Happy trails!
Have a safe and happy holiday season!Blackstone Bicycleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06977465504445181724noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3086244076433935201.post-46636397899399503372012-12-09T15:31:00.004-08:002012-12-09T15:31:54.702-08:00Blackstone Bicycles Annual Holiday Party and sale!Hi all,
Hope this year has been as good to you as it has to us! Thanks to seriously kick ass customers we've had a strong season, and a great year all around. This time of year finds us starting a little remodel while building new bikes and looking forward to the 2013 season (after a well deserved break in late January/early February).

Once again we're hosting a Holiday Party, and this years shindig will go down on December 15th between the hours of 2 and 6pm. Feel free to swing by and guzzle our drinks and partake in our pulled pork, chili or whatever other good stuff Stacy decides to make for us all! A vegetarian dish of some sort will also be on the menu, so there you go.
Please bring an unwrapped toy to be entered in a raffle for bike gear and accessories! All the toys collected will be donated to Children's Friend as part of their Spirit of Giving Campaign. Clothing such as mittens, gloves, hats etc make great gifts and are very much appreciated as well!

Ahead of, and during, the party we'll also be holding a sale on all of our in stock winter riding gear. That means jackets, pants, tights, booties, training caps, gloves, warmers and socks will be 20% off! Since all of those things are made by Endura you can bet they are absolutely awesome and will last you forever. After today's chilly road ride I'm almost looking forward to some real cold days to put my new gear to the test! All of our Osprey hydration packs will also be %20 off to boot!

In case anyone is wondering about leftover demos.... Well, I'm happy to report that we sold almost all of them. We do, however, have one beautiful full on lean and mean XC racing machine up for grabs. It's a Large 2012 Rocky Mountain Vertex 970 RSL. I use the term "large" loosely here as it weighs in around 23lbs without pedals and you could always make it lighter... $2,400 smackers take this one home (in shop only)!

We also still have the large 2012 Transition Trans AM demo bike complete with a Stan's Flow wheelset (upgraded from the pic below) for $1,900.

And last, but not least, come take home our last 'cross bike. A 54cm Rocky Mountain Solo CX, brand new, not a demo, for $850. That's a good deal right there.

So, how about current and next year's demos? We already have a 2013 Banshee Prime built and ready to demo as well as an Ibis Mojo HD 160 (both size large). Down the road we'll be getting a 650b Rocky Mountain Altitude 750 demo, and we'll also be sporting a 2013 Banshee Rune demo bike in addition to a complete Spitfire on the floor! Pretty cool new bikes for 2013 and we're hoping they all ride as great as we think they will. Or, as we know they do, in the case of the Prime and the Mojo! Oh, yeah, and we're getting another Prime frame in the shop in the next week or so in that nice yellow color that all the cool kids talk about.

That's it. That's all I got. If you want more then swing by the party, help a good cause, maybe win some swag and hang out with like minded bike riding people!

It's been a while but I like to wait until we actually have something to talk about so, on that note, here goes...

The annual Lincoln Woods Fun Ride is happening on 11/4. The rain date it 11/11. Same deal as it always is, bring canned and/or non perishable food items and ride for free! Everyone loves free stuff, right? Flyer for said event is below. All the food and any cash donations go to the RI Community Food Bank so please be generous!

Parking will be the same as years past in the lot by the beach, next to the little cemetery. Registration will run from 9 - 12. Arrows come down by 2:00! Plan accordingly. There will be chili and hot dogs and good tasty treats for after the ride as well. The trails will be leaf blown just before the ride and we'll likely throw in some new stuff this year to keep it interesting and maybe make it a bit longer.

Directions:

Rte 146 to the Twin River Road exit.
Left off the exit if coming from the South.
Right off the exit ramp if coming from the north.
Drive straight into the park and take a right at the kiosk.
The lot is down a few hundred yards on the left, you can't miss it.

In related news the Rocky Mountain demo truck may be there and we hope Mark can make it! We'll likely have a Banshee Prime for folks to drool over as well. And maybe the Surly Pugsley Necromancer to boot!

Hopefully the recent heat wave hasn't completely fried your desire to ride a bike because we're going to run a little in season special on bikes through July 7th.

All of our in stock KHS and Rocky Mountain fitness, road, mountain and cyclocross bikes are 15% off! And, you still get to take 10% off any and all accessories you buy with the bike. Not a bad deal. We have Rocky Mountain Metropolis LHRs, Rocky Mountain Solo CXs, Rocky Mountain Soul 29, Rocky Mountain Flares, KHS Vitamins and KHS Urban Xpresses in stock and ready to go!

All of the fitness, road and cyclocross bikes listed above can double as capable commuters should you feel the urge to ride to the store, work or those backyard BBQs that are on your social calendar this season.

Speaking of rides and social events... We are going to host a bike swap/ride/BBQ here at the shop in August. We're still working on the date but the idea is to hold a swap, ride from the shop to Lincoln Woods for a tour of the trails and then return to the shop for some BBQ. Sound like fun? I hope so.
The swap will be open to all kinds of bikes and bike parts, but we're kinda hoping this swap is heavy on the mountain bike goods so tell your friends!

On the trail riding front we still have quite a few demo bikes available for test rides including the Rocky Mountain Element 950, a Transition Bandit 29 and a Transition Trans AM 29. The IBIS Mojo HD is still here as well! At some point in late summer we will have a Banshee Prime built up and ready for demos - how sweet is that?!

We're also selling our shop fixed gears, soon to be replaced with some nice geared steel road bikes. Mike's All City Big Block is up for grabs as well as my All City Nature Boy for $700 each. Both are of the 55cm variety and are a steal at this price. Think of it as the "bro-deal" you always wanted but never knew how to ask for without coming across like a jerk... Or buy some scavenged junkbox on Craigslist with an Ashtabula crankset and a crappy cog duct taped to a freewheel hub for $500. Whatever...

Pics of said bikes can be found below:
That's it for now, stay cool out there kids!Brendanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15400774544624205539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3086244076433935201.post-48192057099999384992012-05-03T14:36:00.000-07:002012-05-03T14:37:36.147-07:00News you can use!Hi all,

It's already May! Insane, isn't it? Seems like it was just yesterday we were getting back down to business here after our winter break... Hopefully you've taken advantage of the dry, warm and generally great weather we've enjoyed in southern New England as of late.

The Monday night Lincoln Woods rides are in full swing. We're still meeting at the covered bridge off of route 123 at 6:00 on Monday nights, and we're able to ride for almost two hours now that the sunset is cooperating with us! The Thursday night Big River ride has now moved to exit 6 (Burnt Sawmill Rd.) and starts at 6:00 these days, just a friendly reminder.

Speaking of Lincoln Woods.... if you ride in there without a helmet well, then, you probably don't need one. Seriously kids! Use your damn brains while you still got 'em. I'm getting tired of seeing people ripping around out there sans protection. Don't get hurt and ruin it for everyone, please. I'm asking nicely, and really, this is nice. What won't be nice is when you're in a coma and you can't hear your friends talking all around you.

Wow, what a bummer... On to positive things below:

Did you know that May is National Bike Month? Well, it is! Even if every month is bike month for most of us this is the time of year the cycling community collectively asserts itself, and works to get more people safely out there on the road. Recreation and transportation cycling on our roadways is something many folks are interested in but not sure how to get started doing it safely. Luckily for us here in RI we have a great resource in the Rhode Island Bicycle Coalition. And, not too surprisingly, they have a bunch of events planned for the month of May including Bike to Work Day on 5/18 in both Providence and Newport. Click here for the latest schedule of events. We like to think the bike below would make for one super duper commuter... Discs, a steel frame with rack and fender mounts and a full Tiagra 10 speed kit for $1099. What's not to love?

Speaking of events, RI NEMBA is holding a trail work day down at Arcadia Management Area in Exeter this coming Saturday, May 5th at 9AM. If you're a mountain biker, or hiker, and you don't mind getting your hands dirty consider giving back to the trails you love to ride and hike! The work party is meeting at the Browning Mill Pond parking lot, info can be found on the RI NEMBA facebook page.

Don't forget we're still demoing some really nice bikes this season! We currently have an 18.5" Rocky Mountain Element 950, a large Transition Bandit 29 as well as an IBIS Mojo HD in large. All of the above bikes are sporting a height adjustable post as well. If you haven't tried one of these yet, well, now you can kill two birds with one stone.
Apparently the local riding community is as well judging by the service work and general busyness around the shop. It could be the weather we've enjoyed this winter, or it could be that all the diehards just needed to ride all year round. Whatever the reason, we got you covered in 2012. Here is some pertinent info to check out as we roll into the new riding season.

"The Basics" Free Repair classes:

These are free classes, close to the start of the season (so you don't learn it and forget it), that cover the basics like flat tire repair, drivetrain maintenance, chain repair and basic wheel truing. The idea is to empower you so you can get home should anything (or a few things) go wrong. The classes are FREE and we give a 10% discount on all tools and supplies (tubes, patch kits, lube, etc..) bought after the classes. The dates are March 5th and March 12th, classes start at 6. Basically we'll show you how to do it and then let you practice and ask us questions as you go. Learning by doing is always the best way. Please email the shop to RSVP, space is limited to 4 per class. If need be we can add more dates.

Monday Night NEMBA rides at Lincoln Woods (and possibly beyond Lincoln):

We're going to restart the standing ride at 6:15 at Lincoln Woods, meeting at the Route 123 entrance, on March 19th! Sure, the rides will likely be short at first but it won't be dark at 5:30 so that helps. Be sure to bring lights for the first week or two, a helmet light is required!

We are toying with the idea of moving the ride around when we have the most daylight from late May through July. Details to follow but we are looking at 6:30/6:45 starts in Foxboro, Sutton, Uxbridge, Big River etc...

Wednesday Bike Path rides:

We're going to keep heading out shortly after 6 on Wednesdays for a 20 mile spin along the Blackstone. 16-18 mph pace, this will be a recovery spin for some and a workout for others. No one gets left to the wolves!

New Bikes!

We have some 2012 bikes in stock from Rocky Mountain including a bunch of nice and affordable 29er hardtails, a new Slayer 50 and a few well spec'd and priced 'cross bikes. The new KHS bikes should be here in a few weeks and we're looking at bringing in a Transition 29er as well as some other cool bikes and accessories. The new Rocky hardtail 29ers are a great bang for the buck! Ranging from $600 for the Flare to $1200 for the Trailhead. Sandwiched in between the Soul 29 continues to be a very well spec'd mid level 29er at $800.

We still have one medium 2011 Banshee Paradox left as well. Click here to check out the deal and the bike, or just scroll down the home page for the other sale bikes like the Redline D440 and the Surly Karate Monkey.

We're not just a mountain bike shop:

I know, everyone thinks we only ride in the woods... And, yes, we do really enjoy trail riding in all of it's niches, but we also like road riding, 'cross and commuting and contrary to popular belief we're pretty well rounded cyclists. You'll likely see us continue to concentrate on mountain bikes, and fitness bikes for the bike path, but this year we'd really like to see more people out there riding to work utilizing the infrastructure we have here in RI to get around by bike. On the repair side of things, if it's a bike we can usually fix it. If we can't we'll point you in the right direction.

From long to short commutes we've done it and can help with advice as well as bomber bikes to get you to and fro (the new crop of disc equipped 'cross bikes from Redline are awesome commuter machines!). Gas might hit $5 a gallon but you can save some cash and keep in shape this year with a little effort and the right equipment. Don't be surprised to see commuter friendly bikes in the shop as well as plenty of lights, clothing, racks, flat resistant tires and more. And don't forget to mention if you belong to the RI Bike Coalition, NBW, IMBA or NEMBA as we do offer 10% discounts to members.

Here's to the 2012 riding season, may it be safe and fun for all!.Brendanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15400774544624205539noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3086244076433935201.post-50894338219603830252011-12-13T10:33:00.000-08:002011-12-13T10:47:42.079-08:00Holiday Party Saturday, December 17th!!
